All good things must come to an end I suppose. The Y&E fall to defeat for the first time in 221 days after a lacklustre 3-1 defeat to Penrith. A Jordan Palmer hat-trick, including two penalties saw Penrith take the points. Match report from Sam Robson
The game was largely end-to-end with the majority of Y&E chances coming within the first 20 minutes most if which coming from headed flick ons from Dan Jones. The story of the game was Yarm missing chances which should be put away which ultimately cost them the game. The solid defence of this Penrith side was difficult to break down, with precious few long balls landing on the foot or head of any Yarm player. The lads went in trailing by a goal to nil but with recent history in mind few were worried despite the sub-par first half performance.

The tide looked to be turning as Ste Roberts struck one into the bottom corner 5 minutes into the second half, but as Y&E were regrouping from the restart a central penetrating run led to Penrith going back in front after less than a minute being level.
Unsurprisingly, this was a blow for the lads and paired with a few contested refereeing decisions heads began to go. First to the sin bin was Titch after a few choice words to the referee, then seconds before the end Pete Bulmer followed suit.
I think it’s fair to say some of the lads weren’t used to being on the wrong end of a result and it began to show towards the end of the match.
Anyway it’s onwards and upwards for Y&E as we look forward to Saturday and our first game in the prestigious FA Cup against West Auckland who play in NPL Div 1 East. We hope to see you all down at Bedford Terrace come 3:00 on Saturday.
