An injury time 25 yard strike from Ste Roberts levelled up the game after a Ben Riding goal put Horden ahead on 73 mins. Neil “Minty” Gibbons with the match report assisted by Macey.
The lads travelled to Horden on Tuesday evening in what was always going to be a tough encounter. I set off early with the kit and my sidekick Macey, good job we did set off early as we spent 45mins on the A19 flyover! After listening to Maceys play list for another 45mins I was pleased to get to the ground.

Kit hung up, sponsors tagged, photos taken and ready for kick off. Jacko made two changes from the opening win of the season against Newcastle Benfield, Harry Titchner returning from suspension and Dan McWilliams making his league debut for the lads. (Joe Dalton and Sam Conway both absent)
The first half kicked off and was a tough battle with both defences coming out on top for the sides as the teams went in at half time goalless. The first half saw a couple of half chances for each side but neither keeper really tested.
Half time I treated myself to a Horden burger which gets a high score of 9/10 from me, lovely food, and excellent service from the ladies in the café. Happiest I had seen Dave Knowles all night aswell as he came skipping back from the café at half time with free chicken balls to go with his chips.
The second half was very similar to the first half, but gaps and more space did start appearing in the last 20mins. Entering the last 20mins, the game looked like finishing goalless however in the 72min Ben Riding managed to get some space and fire the home side ahead from inside the box and break the deadlock to give Horden the lead.
Jacko made multiple substitutions as the clock ticked down and the Y&E pushed more players forward looking for that equaliser. That equaliser came in the 92 min when the Horden keeper came off his line to punch away a long ball, this fell to Ste Roberts just outside the box and he took a touch before drilling home from distance, what a strike! the amazing away supporters happy and some scenes at Welfare Park.
The remaining seconds of the game ended with a tackle and a scuffle between both teams in front of the dug outs. Jack Proctor and a Horden player were red carded and a coach from the Horden bench also shown a red card.
In summarising and ending this match report, I would say that Tuesday’s encounter resulted in two very organised teams going at it and a draw was probably a fair result in the end.
This team never knows when its beaten.
