It’s our very own Super Sunday tie. Billingham town were also drawn at home in he Vase and as landlords, they had first dibs, so their game against Brigg Town will take place on Saturday. 24hrs later it’s our turn and with no other local games taking place, its a chance to watch some Sunday non league football. The game is sponsored by Hunters Fitness Hub, home to Grimbo’s legendary boot camp work outs which go a long way to ensuring the squads pre season fitness. Match-ball sponsors are Maurice and Andy Fixter, co chairs of the #CF7 supporters club. Thanks all for your continued support, it is greatly appreciated.

After a dogged victory away at Pickering Town in the second qualifying round where a Ste Roberts Penalty was enough to settle the tie, the Y&E will be hoping to progress the second road and keep on the road to Wembley. In their way stand tough opposition in Colne FC. Like the Y&E they are a Step 6 side and the currency play in the North West Counties league Division One North. They currently sit just above the bottom three on 8 points after playing just seven games. They made it through to the first round after beating Seaham Red Star 1-0 at home. They followed that up with an eventful couple of away games against fellow NWCFL Division one north side Thornton Cleverleys. The initial tie was abandoned due to weather conditions on the Fylde coast, with the hosts 4-1 up after just 55 minutes. With the game replayed nine days after the abandoned tie, with Colne winning the game 2-1, with the game heading to a penalty shootout, a stoppage time own goal was enough to put Colne through to the first round proper. Since their Vase victory, they have played two games, losing 3-1 at home against Euxton Villa and 2-1 away at Bacup Borough. Scoring wise, Barney Wiggin, Miles Storey and Jack Holt lead the way this season with 4 goals each.
As for the Y&E, the win at Synners last Saturday was important to bounce back after the disappointing display away at Prudhoe a fortnight ago. With no midweek game, it was chance for the squad to rest up ahead of a busy few weeks starting with Colne on Sunday. Influential defender / makeshift target man Dan Jones is suspended following bookings in the previous two Vase games. Aside from that Jacko and the management team have pretty much a full squad available for selection. Midfield due Joe Hillerby and Joe Scaiffe Wheatly are both back available for selection as is returning enforcer Charlie Fixter who made it through 65 minutes against Synners in his first game for over 12 months following his knee injury. Striker Tom Atkinson will be looking to make it three goals out of three after his finishes against Prudhoe and Synners.

We hope to see plenty of you there supporting the Y&E. The game kicks off at 3pm, with gates opening at 2pm. Plenty of time to grab a snack from the cafe, a programme and a few goes on the half time bottle draw blind card. Hopefully there will be a good turnout from Colne, with plenty of fans making the 80+ mile journey to Teeside for the game. We look forward to welcoming you to Bedford Terrace.
It’s £6 for adults, £4 concessions and accompanied U16s are free to get in. Cash and card payments are accepted. Remember as it is a FA Vase game, Y&E season tickets are not valid.
Howay the mighty keep on the road to Wembley Y&E
