Y&E at home vs York City in County Cup Contest

Next up for the Y&E is a North Riding Senior Cup second round tie against York City on Wednesday 26th November.  The match is kindly sponsored by Preston Farm Developments, thank you for your support.

The game kicks off at 7.30pm with gates  open from 6.30pm.  It’s £6 for adults, £4 for concessions and U16s are free if accompanied by an adult.  The cafe will be open, with burgers, pies and hot drinks on sale.  For any York fans who’ve not visited Bedford Terrace before, there is a bar at the ground if you want a pint during the match.  We’ll have printed match programmes on sale alongside pin badges and a few Y&E bobble hats.  Not to mention Minty’s half time bottle draw!

It’s not everyday that you end up drawn against a National League side in the Cup.  Little old Yarm & Eaglescliffe lining up against a a team plying its trade near the top of the National League and pushing for promotion back to the  Football League.  Given their current position in the league and, lets face it some bigger priorities, it’s unlikely that any first team players will be risked on a cold wet Wednesday night at Bedford Terrace, but nevertheless whatever team York City put out, it will be a tough test for the Y&E.  Based on previous years, it’s likely their team will be made up of players from their youth system.  There is a few players in the squad who have been in the first team so far this season.

Last season in the Cup, York were knocked 4-3 on penalties by TIBS after a 2-2 draw at Teasdale Park.  The season before they lost 3-2 at Guisborough Town.  Like ourselves they didn’t make it past the second round in either season.    For the Y&E last season it was a a defeat on penalties against Redcar Town after a 2-2 draw and 2 years ago, a memorable 5-4 defeat against Marske United knocked us out.

Printed Match Programme on Sale £2

Squad wise, Jacko has a pretty much full squad to choose from.  With the Newbiggin game last Saturday postponed due to the weather, it’s our first chance to get out on the pitch after the disappointing display against Prudhoe in the League cup last Tuesday. The lads should be rested after a busy spell of games over the past couple of months, and there is a chance for some of the U21s to potentially get on the bench again.  Marshy and Dan Jones are both available after serving one game suspensions.

Hopefully we’ll have decent crowd in to watch the game, every singe person through the gate is huge for us.  We hope to see you there

Howay the mighty Y&E
