U21s with impressive display to Defeat Thornaby Reserves.
The Y&E U21 side got back to winning ways on Saturday with an impressive 4-0 win against Thornaby FC Reserves. The U21s went ahead on 12 minutes, with Grant Catnach continuing his Fien scoring form, tapping in after a powerful Steven Innes header rattled the cross bar. Grant engaged goal poacher mode and scored his 21st of the campaign so far. The U21s doubled their lead, with James Nicholson threading a lovely ball down the left wing, in to Harvey Hinckes who dribbled in to the box and was upended for a penalty. Harvey stepped up and took the spot kick, managing to sneak the ball underneath the keeper. Sohib Abdulhamid, scored his second in two games getting in to the box to put us 3-0 up at half time. Into the second half and the U21s were in dominant form, with shots raining in form all angles. The Thornaby keeper made some good stops and we had a few from distance that went over. Ollie Stewart Titchner, hit the bar. A foul on the edge of the box and up stepped Liam Vickers, curling a lovely free kick in to top corner. 4-0. Despite more chances, that’s how they game finished.

It was an impressive display from the U21s. The defence looked solid and the central two Jacobs Bridgehouse and Waldon were in control throughout. The James’ – Ward and Nicholson at full back were impressive in defence and getting down the flanks. In midfield Ben Powell, Steve Innes and Sohib played well. Sean Earl, Grant and Harvey all did well up front. There was plenty of quality off the bench, every player coming on and contributing. There is plenty of quality in the squad and the future is bright for the Y&E U21s

Grant hits 100
Striker Grant Catnach hit 100 appearances for the club in the recent 2-1 defeat against Whitby Fisherman Society in the Lou Moore Trophy. Grant is one of the originals from the Y&E Development squad and has been an integral part of the U21 and reserve sides over the past 4 years. An absolute top lad, who this season has really found hoo scoring form, netting 21 goals this season. He couldn’t make it a goal scoring 100th game, but we had Sohib scoring on his debut for the club. A couple of defensive mix ups at the back form crosses saw Whitby Fishermans grab 2 goals. The U21s competed well against a team the Fisherman, who are a league above the U21s.
