Sunderland West End (h) Match Preview

Next up for the Y&E is a home game against Sunderland West End. It’s a rearranged fixture following the floodlight issues we had back in August. Before anyone asks, yes we have got 50p for the meter!

The match is kindly sponsored by the Gibbons family in memory of Bobby Gibbons and the matchball is sponsored by Peter Rudd. Thank you all for your support it is greatly appreciated.

West End head down the A19 to face us on the back of a 3-1 home victory over Durham United. They currently sit in 12th place in the league on 22 points. Away from home they’ve won 1, drawn 3 and lost 2 of their last 6 games, scoring 8 and conceding 8 in the process. Their last away game in the league was a 1-0 defeat at Chester le Street Town. They have a couple of games in hand over the teams around them, a win against us would move them in to the top 10. Zouhair Benali and Bryan Norton are West End’s joint top scorers with 5 goals each.

Last season we won 3-1 at home, Tom atkinson with a 55th minute penalty cancelling out a Craig Linsell first half strike. Tom scored on 86 minutes and Arthur Connolly sealed the points in the 93rd minute. Away from home we won 6-5 in that memorable comeback. We also played west End in the league cup, losing 3-2 away at the Ford Hub. Benali with two and Charlie Green the other for West End and Joe Dalton and Cam Wild scoring for us. Benali was the stand out man for them that game.

As for the Y&E, the big question is who will be lining up in attack. Will it be a return of the Sam Conway & Dan Jones strike partnership from Saturday against Park View? Another one for Jacko and the management team to decide on. It’ll be another tough test as we round off the early season run of midweek games.

Yes there is a Boro game on, but where else would you rather be on a late September’s evening than watching the mighty Y&E?? The pies are better, it’s cheaper to get in, and you can have a pint while you watch! What more could you ask for?

Gates open 6.30pm. Kick off 7.30pm. See you there. Howay the mighty Y&E ⚪️🦅🔵
