Scarborough Athletic (a) – County Cup QF Match Preview

Next up for the Y&E is a CLS Sports North Riding Senior Cup quarter final away against National League North Side Scarborough Athletic.

The game kicks off at 7.45pm at The Mounting Systems Stadium, 46 Queensgate, Bridlington, YO16 7LN. As ever our away games this season are Sponsored by Dragontail Consulting.

After our win against York City in the last round, it doesn’t get any easier facing up against a strong national league North outfit. The Seadogs currently sit in sixth place in the league table. Last time out the lost 2-1 away at second place Fylde.

Managed by ex Boro, West Brom & Manchester Utd player Jonathan Greening they are having a good season, despite having to play their home games at the home of Bridlington Town, whilst the pitch at their ground in Scarborough is sorted out this season.

They’ve got some pedigree in the Senior Cup, winning it 19 times in all, including 3 of the last 4 years. Our very own Josh Larkin was part of a South Park Rangers side that reached the final back in April 2023, losing 4-1 at the LNER community stadium to the Seadogs.

Last time in the Senior Cup, they beat Guisborough Town 3-2, a last minute Dom Tear goal sealing a place in the quarter finals. The side they put out against Gusiborough had plenty of first team experience in there, so there is no doubt that it will be a very tough challenge for us.

It seems a while since Callum’s heroics in the penalty shoot out vs York City after an entertaining 3-3 draw back in November. This is the furthest we have progressed in the Senior Cup in the club’s history. A semi final place awaits the winner.

As for the Y&E confidence is high after an impressive away display at Seaham last Saturday. Joe Dalton is still suspended and will miss the game, Joe Hillerby is injured and misses out. Aside from that Jacko has pretty much a full squad at his disposal with new signing Cameron Thomson available for selection.

There is no pressure on the Y&E, we know we go into this as underdogs. It’s a test against a very good non league team, one that Jacko and the players will be relishing.

There is information on the Scarborough Website here regarding parking and admission charges. Hopefully we’ll see a few of the Y&E faithful there backing the lads.
