Next up for the Y&E is the visit of Redcar Town to Bedford Terrace, as the top two in Divsion Two last season line up against each other.
The match is sponsored by Eddie Dougan and the matchball is sponsored by Marc Eccles. Thank you both for your support.
Both teams have had a strong start to life in Division One, the Y&E in 4th on 13 points from 6 games and Redcar in 8th on 10 points after 5 games.
Redcar have had a good start in knowckout competitions, making it past Newcastle Benfield (a) and Bridlington Town (h) to set up a home tie against Blyth Spartans in the 1st Qualifying round of the FA Cup.
In the league they are W3 D1 L1 F12 A7. Their only defeat being a 2-1 home loss to Blyth Town. Town were packed full of quality last season, with the likes of Craig Gott, Joe Taylor, Josh Duffield to name but a few. They’ve added further reinforcements over the summer with Chay Liddle and ex Y&E forward Jayden Gray joining their ranks. They are a team packed full of experience.
Jayden has started well and with forward Kayden Robinson Coley (who had a spell of Northern League Division one experience last season with a late season loan at Marske United) they will be a further test for our defence.
Last season honours were split between the 2 sides, Redcar Town winning at Bedford Terrace in early September. A first half pen from Craig Gott and a Kyran Clark goal ok 43, as followed by a late Ste Roberts goal. The return game in April was a cracker. The Y&E winning 4-2 in front of a bumper crowd. A first minute goal from Tom Atkinson was followed by 2 more from him (32 & 63) before Stares and Carmichael (73 & 78) made it nervy only for Joe Dalton to calmly finish on 85 to seal the win. A superb away display from the Y&E. Redcar went on to seal the league title by 2 points, but our disappointment was short lived as we finished the season in style with 2 cups and a play off win.
As for the Y&E, we say this every game but there are some injuries still in the squad. There will be a few late fitness checks as more of our injured players start to make there way back. The lads will be looking to put in another solid defensive shift, with plenty of work rate and effort across the pitch. Up front Ste Roberts and Tom Atkinson are in goal scoring form, Ste has had a blistering start to the season, with a rare headed goal on Saturday adding to this tally. Tom bagged two as he moved to 4 for the season.
It promises to be a midweek cracker. Game kicks off at 7.30pm. Gates open from 6.30pm. The cafe will be open as normal and we have printed programmes for sale. We’ll also have our half time 50/50 draw. It went for over £100 against North Shields, so well worth buying a few tickets.
Lest get behind the lads on the pitch!
