Playoff Semi Final Preview – Seaham Red Star (h)

Next up for the Y&E is a playoff semi final at home against Seaham Red Star. The winner of the game will face Jarrow or FC Hartlepool in the playoff final for a place in Division One next season.

The match is sponsored by Icon Plastics. Thank you for your support.

Kick off is 3pm, we are expecting a big crowd so if you can arrive early it would be a big help to make sure everyone is in time for kick off. As it’s a playoff game no season tickets or league passes are valid. League rules mean entry fees are £6 adults, £4 concessions & £2 U16s. We accept Cash & card payments.

If you are driving to the game, please park responsibly. There is on street parking available on Cowpen Lane.

Enough of ticketing & parking – onto the match itself. Red Star finished 5th in the league. Dropped points in their last two games, away at Redcar Town & Tow Law Town meant that they dropped from 4th to 5th place in the league. P42 W24 D7 L11. F75 A47.

Red Star were in playoff contention throughout the season. Despite a poor run of form in early 2026, they managed to pull a decent run of results together to finish in the play off places, as they seek to return to division one at the first attempt.

We have already played Seaham three times this season. We drew 2-2 at home back in late August. Ste Roberts (75) and Marshy (84) giving us a late lead before a Matthew Weirs double on 86 and 90+1 snatched a point for the visitors. Back in early December we won 2-1 in the Ernest Armstrong league cup, Tom Atkinson (51) and Marshy (72) scoring before a late late (90+7) pen from Dan Wilds made for a nervy few minutes of injury time. Away at Seaham we won 3-0. Tom Atkinson with a goal in the 1st 30 seconds, Dan Jones (27) and a 2nd Tom goal (84) sealing an important away three points in January. Red Star finished the game with 10 men after Mckellan Line’s was shown a red on 56, in what was at times a tad firey afternoon of association football.

Players to watch for the opposition are Ryan Appleby who scored 15 league goals this season and a familiar face to many at the Y&E, forward Jayden Gray. We all know Jayden has the ability to create something out of nothing, after his 3 seasons at the club.

Squad wise, it’s likely that Jacko will make a few changes following Tuesday’s league cup semi final against Ryton & Crawcrook Albion. HST and Marshy are likely to return in midfield and talismanic striker Tom Atkinson will be back up top. We know that whatever starting XI is named, the lads will go out there and give 100%. It’s been a phenomenal season so far, today’s game is chance to keep it going even further and get us one step closer to promotion.

We’d love your support there today backing the lads.
