Next up for the Y&E is the first of 3 home games in a week as we welcome North Shields to Bedford Terrace. The game is sponsored by Mason UK and the Match ball is sponsored by Tooth Express. Massive thanks for your support.

It’s a 3pm kick off, with gates open from 2pm.

Shields head down the A19 in 11th place, having taken 7 points from their first 6 games. Their points this season coming from comprehensive wins against Shildon (3-1 at home) and Northallerton 4-0 away. They also drew with Newton Aycliffe first game this season. Last time out they lost 4-1 away at Horden on Tuesday night. Like us they exited the FA Cup after conceding 2 late goals in the replay against Northern Premier League East opposition, with Consett scoring twice in stoppage time to beat North Shields 2-1. They’ll be dangerous opponents and are packed full of experience, with Nelson Ogbewe and Dan Wilson up front, both familiar to Y&E supporters after playing against us for Blues Star and Blyth Town respectively in our first season in the Northern League. Last season they finished 8th in the league on 57points, juts outside the playoff places.

As for the Y&E, two 1-0 away wins in a row. Thackley in the Vase followed up by a superb gritty team performance last Tuesday at Carlisle where we defended superbly after Mikey Roberts put us one up in the first half. It wasn’t just Y&E defending – we had good chances ourselves. There remains a few injuries in the squad and couple of players unavailable. Jacko and the management team know that we will need to be at our best once again to take something from the game.

It would be great to see plenty of home support there backing the lads. North Shields always travel in good numbers backing their team. As Jacko always says the one thing we guarantee is entertainment!

We’ll have a printed programme on sale at the game, the cafe will be well stocked with pies and burgers, plus there will be the 50/50 draw. See if someone not named Keith Roberts will win this week!
