Match Report

Grangetown Boys Club 2-2 Yarm & Eaglescliffe

Saturday 9th August 2025 (att94)

A quick turnround for the Y&E after our victory away at Durham United.  Less than 48 hours later we were heading down the Trunk Road to face fellow ex North Riding Premier league team Grangetown Boys Club.  There was a few changes in the dugout as manager Jacko was getting married just before kick off.  With assistants Glenn & Richie both celebrating at the Jackson wedding, Club captain Cameron Wild was in charge.

We named a pretty similar line up to Durham, with Leo replacing Dougs, Ste Roberts in for Harry Williams and Foz Garton in for Joe Dalton.  On the bench Pete Bulmer, Ethan Lansdell, Liam Vickers, Dylan Gnaglo and Sean Chidanyika.

We were 1-0 up after a six minutes.  Their keeper was adjudged to have picked up a back pass and an indirect free kick was awarded.  It fell to Marshy in the box who made no mistake to score his second goal in two games.  Foz was in the book early doors for a late challenge from the restart.  Grangetown drew level on 12minutes with George McCowie capitalising on some bad defending to level the game up.  Ste nearly put us back in front on 21 minutes, with a lovely run and strike that beat the keeper but rattle off the bar.  We ha the winds at our backs and couldn’t quite find the passing range at times.  Ethan came off for Pete Bulmer with Foz dropping in to the central back three.  We traded chances towards the end of the half, but we went in all level.

Into the second half and we were unchanged.  We didn’t get off ti the best of starts struggling to get going.  The hosts took the lead on 60 minutes with Joe Dixon grabbing a goal after an initial save from Callum.  A few minutes later Grangetown were down to ten men with Charlie Paterson sent off on 65 minutes.  25 minutes against ten men for the Y&E to find an equaliser and possibly more.  The lads kept plugging away and finally on 88 minutes we got an equaliser.  Tom Atkinson getting the ball on the right of the box and making no mistake to bury it.   We had snatched a goal back and the game ended up 2-2.

By no means our best performance and a point was probably all we deserved.  Two games in quick succession is always challenging and we looked a little tired and leggy at times. We struggled a bit in the blustery conditions as well. The standards we set now are so high that a draw can feel disappointing, but it is another away point and maintains our unbeaten start to the league campaign.  If you can’t win away from home, at least make sure you don’t lose!

As for our hosts that was their second point of the season and their first point at home.  They played well and made it difficult for us, took their chances and almost held out with ten man for all three points.  Good luck to them for the rest of the campaign.
