It’s another away trip for the Y&E on Thursday as we head up to Maiden Castle in Durham to face newly promoted Durham United. As ever away games this season are sponsored by Resolution Compliance. Durham Utd won the Wearside League last season to secure promotion to Northern League. An opening day 4-3 defeat at home against Boldon where they conceded 2 late goals was followed by a 4-0 defeat away at Alnwick Town. Last time out they drew 3-3 at home against Park View, again conceding 2 late goals. So just a single point from their opening three games, but it could have been different without those late goals. It’s our first ever game against Durham United and as ever it will be another tough test for the Y&E.

It’s seven points from the opening three games for the Y&E. I’m sure looking at the opening three games before the season started we’d have been happy with that points tally. With tonight’s game & an away trip to Grangetown on Saturday it’s an opportunity to build on that good start. Striker Tom Atkinson is back in scoring mood after notching up his 100th Y&E goal at Jarrow, with 101 & more in his sights.

Squad wise, there is a few more player available than last week. JL10 & CF7 are working their way back to fitness after long injury layoffs. It could be another different defensive lineup tonight, we’ve changed it every game so far, so who knows who’ll be lining up there! Jacko & the management team will also have one eye on Saturdays trip to Grangetown as they select the team. It’s a quick turnaround between games, and they’ll be looking to manage playing time as needed.

The weather is looking canny for tonight & it’s only a 45min drive or so up to Durham. It would be great to see plenty of the Y&E faithful backing the lads. For those who can’t make it, Minty will be updating Twitter & James will be providing updates on the supporters WhatsApp group.
