It’s a Teesside derby next up for the Y&E as Marske United make the trip over from the East Cleveland coast to Bedford Terrace. Once again, it is a 7.30pm kick-off with gates open from 6.30pm. The match is kindly sponsored by Cutting Edge Grounds Maintenance, and the match ball is sponsored by Y&E stalwart Ian “Staffy” Stafford.

After no game at the weekend, the Y&E still sit in the top 6 on 25 points, sandwiched between Thornaby on 25pts in 7th and Birtley Town on 26 points in 5th. Not a bad place to be at the start of October, but we know how tough this league is and there will be no resting on our laurels as we look to put more points on the board.

Marske come into the game sitting in 16th position in the league (P11 W4 D3 L4 F10 A15 for 15 points). They’ve played the fewest games in the league (they have six games in hand over 19th place Northallerton Town) and they’ll be looking to turn those games into points on the board. They have had a decent run of form lately taking 10 points from their last six games, including beating Shildon and Whitley Bay. Away from home they are P4 W1 D1 L2 (GD -6). Last time out they lost 2-1 at home against Birtley Town. Last Tuesday, their match at Horden was abandoned due to fog on the Durham Coast.

Their leading scorer is a familiar face in Charlie Watt. He’s scored 6 goals in all competitions, and the ex-Billingham Town player will be looking to add to his tally on familiar territory.

With no game on Saturday, the lads had an extra training session. Whilst there was more goal threat last week against Newton Aycliffe—with Tom bagging three—we did concede three as well. Aside from our longer-term injuries to Joe Hillerby and Leo Cheesebrough, Jacko has pretty much a full squad to choose from. Midfielder Harry Stewart Titchner had a good run out last Tuesday in the second half and he is likely to feature again against Marske.

We are the only Northern League game taking place on 6th October and it is still the international break, so no excuse not to get yourself down to Bedford Terrace to get behind the Y&E!
