Harry Stewart Titchner the hero as Y&E reach County Senior Cup Final

The Riverside Stadium awaits super Yarm & Eaglescliffe after late winner shatters Northallerton hearts.

Match Report from Joesph McCue

The Y&E booked their place in the final of the North Riding Senior cup after an enthralling 2-1 win over Northallerton Town. Wonderful strikes from Tom Atkinson and Harry Titchner  saw Y&E progress to the final after a late thunder strike from midfield sensation Harry Stewart Titchner.

On a cold wet Tuesday night the Y&E looked to book their place in the final as they came up against Northallerton Town in what would prove to be an entertaining game at the Calvert Stadium in Northalleton. The Y&E came out looking the better side in the opening 10 minutes with a few early half chances, but nothing went in their way. After what looked to be a dominant start by Y&E, Northallerton would make a quick break down the right-hand side which saw Brad Hughes head home the opener which slipped underneath Cal in the Y&E goal.

As the rain continued to pour down The Y&E still were having most of the ball in the the first half and made some good chances but couldn’t find the equaliser. The wet conditions were proving difficult for both sides as and neither were able to carve out many chances. In the 36th minute Y&E are forced to make an early change with Ste Roberts going off for Joe Dalton. Shortly after a whipped ball in from Northallerton saw them with a great chance to extend their lead but a superb save from Cal Roberts saw the ball hit the inside of the post and then cleared by the defence.

As the second half got underway the rain did not stop but neither did Y&E as a Tom Atkinson strike was saved by the keeper giving Y&E their first major chance of the game. Not long after Tom would pop up again on the edge of the box and hit a superb strike from the edge of teh box, first time after a corner was partially cleared. It was some some hit which saw his effort sail into the top corner and put the Y&E on level terms.

After the equaliser Y&E played with much more confidence driven forward by Harry Stewart Titchner as he kept pushing forward trying to get that second goal and give them the lead. After a few Y&E subs Jack Proctor would enter play and after a lovely, whipped cross from Titch he would head onto the post with just five minutes left. Pete Bulmer broke clear on 90mins and saw his effort saved. Going into the final minutes of the game both teams were giving it all they had but with 90+4 on the clock, up stepped Harry Stewart Titchner who took the ball and one touch, then he saw his wonderful strike from the edge of the box ripple the back of the net. The goal sent the large Y&E away support into raptures as they had sealed the win at the death. The Y&E had reached Senior Cup final for ten first time in their history,

Credit to our hosts, they played well and contributing to an entertaining and eventful game in tough conditions. Best of luck to them for the remainder of the season.

Some cracking performances across the pitch for the Y&E, with every player putting a shift in but the hero of the hour was yound midfield maestro and a deserved man of the match Harry Stewart Titchner. That was one of the great nights in the Club’s history.
