Match Report
Y&E 2 -2 Seaham Red Star
Saturday 30th August 2025 (att 103)

Seaham Red Star were the visitors to Bedford Terrace in our first home Saturday fixture of the 25/26 campaign. Red Star were the only unbeaten team in the league and were in 3rd place in the league as they travelled down the A19.
Once again we able to name and unchanged back five, with the Daltons at wing back, Ethan Jones, Dan Jones and Ross Harrison as a central three in front of Callum. Joe Scaife Wheatley and HST in midfield, with Marshy and Ste Roberts lining behind Alex Dougall up front. Tom Atkinson recovering from an injury picked up against RCA last Tuesday. On the bench, Freddie, Leo, Sean, Foz and Ethan Lansdell.
The Y&E got off to the better start, Marshy intercepting a pass on 50 seconds and drive in the box, but his effort went over the bar. On 7 minutes a Ste Roberts effort hit the post, two excellent chances in the first 10 minutes. Red Star’s only real effort was a curling effort well saved by Callum on 15mins. On 27 mins Jack Dalton was booked for an off the ball block, and minute later a thigh injury and he was replaced by Foz Garton. There was another change on 34 mins, with Joe Scaife Wheatley injured and replaced by Leo. Dalts moving up to midfield and Leo in at left wing back. The settled back five hadn’t lasted long. There was decent chance for HST after some good play by Ste, and a booking for their captain for a tough challenge on Dougs. Half Time 0-0
Second half and we started the better. Ste Roberts and Joe Dalton both with some good early play as we looked ot apply some pressure. Dalts had a good effort but over the bar after Ste and Marshy had linked up well. On 67mins Dougs came off for Freddie, with Jonesy (Dan) the destroyer up front. A minute later Ste Roberts, megged their captain, slides it across a touch form Jonesy takes it away from HST and cleared. The game was becoming quite stretched and a bit end ot end now, with some gaps appearing. We had a warning on 72minutes when they managed to get in behind our back line. Two minute slater we were ahead. Ste Roberts, get the ball on right had side, cuts inside and launches a lovely shot that had the keeper rooted to the spot. 1-0 up. He was subbed off for Sean a couple of minutes after.
We doubled our lead on 84 minutes, ball across to Marshy in the box, with his first two efforts blocked at the far post, he managed to sneak the third home. Six minute sot go and two goals up. Sean and Jonesy were booked a minute later, as they tried ot slow the game down in the corner. On 86 minutes, a break from Red Star and Matthew Weirs was on had to beat Callum to make it 2-1. Momentum was with Red Star now. They kept pushing and we went to a flat back five, to see the game out. In to stoppage time and block from us, fell to Weirs again, who scored again. The refs assistant flagged for offside, cue some protests from Red Star who questioned the decision. A discussion between the officiating team and the decision was revered. 2-2. That was how the game ended.
Fair play to Seaham. They battled all the way and had enough quality at the end to grab two late goals. They maintain their unbeaten record and will be delighted with an away point after being 2-0 down with 6 minutes to go.
As for the Y&E, couldn’t quite hold on at the end. The lads put a shift in, and with some early subs due to injuries we couldn’t freshen things up later as we would have liked. A few players out with injuries but it is still a point against a good side. We look ahead to the next few games now.
Management team MotM

Man of the match was Joe Dalton, with Ethan Jones picking up management man of match. Dalts played brilliantly again, a trademark performance from Joe. Another excellent performance from Ethan who has done brilliantly since coming into the side against Jarrow. Some excellent challenges and great distribution from the back. We defended well up until the last 5 minutes or so, where a moving to a different formation allowed Seaham a bit more time in the middle of the park, where they were able to get the goas from. Ste Roberts with another big shift again, a sumptuous goal and some trademark trickery. Special mention as well to Dougs, playing in the reverse Steve Howey role (Y&E Mags) up front.
