Durham United (h) Match Preview

Y&E have the chance to keep the pressure on Redcar Town at the top of the league this afternoon as they host Durham United at Bedford Terrace.

By Sam Robson

The match kicks off at 3pm, with gates open from 2pm. The game is kindly sponsored by David Knowles Funeral Service and treh match ball sponsored by Y&E OAP Ultra Jim Topping. Thanks once again for your support it is massively appreciated.

The Y&E are on a fantastic run of form with two impressive cup results sprinkled into that, including Tuesday’s brilliant comeback win at Northallerton putting Yarm into the North Riding Cup final.

It is back to league action Today and the visitors are sitting in 16th and on a run of four straight losses, including a 5-0 defeat from leaders Redcar Town on Thursday. Overall across the season they are W13 D4 L22 across their 39 games this season. They have scored 60 and conceded 88. Never seems to be low scoring game when they are playing! Away from home they are W5 D2 L12, scoring 24 and conceding 42. Phil Kay is the danger man for the visitors with 17 goals this season. There is one familiar face in the Durham United squad, ex Y&E reserve team player Seb Chambers.

When the Y&E travelled to Durham back in August, we walked away 4-0 winners with four different goal scorers: Joe Hillerby, Tom Atkinson, Marshy and Ste Roberts from the bench all on the scoresheet that day.

Coming into this game the Y&E would be favourites on form, being unbeaten for 13 games over all competitions. Brimming with confidence after making a cup final and flirting with the top spot for a number of weeks due to Redcar Town’s games in hand. Three points will not be a given, however, this Durham United side can score freely on their day will pose a threat to us. The focus is always on our own performance and results. If we can keep winning, we can keep the pressure on Redcar as we look to make it 5 league wins on the trot.

We hope to see you at the match getting behind the lads. A three o’clock kick on Saturday is what football is all about.
