It’s a 3pm kick off and the weather looks to be decent as well. £7 for adults, £5concessions & £2 U18s. It’ll be way more enjoyable than the Boro Friendly vs Espanyol. We had a really good away following at Horden on Tuesday and it would be brilliant to see the same again at Birtley.
It’s the first time we’ve faced Birtley as they secure promotion from Division 2 in May 2023 beating our landlords Billingham Town in the playoff final 5-4 on pens after a 2-2 draw. We of course entered Division 2 a couple of months later.
Last season they finished in 10th place on 49 points, that follows on from a 16th place finish the season before on the same points tally in 24/25.
They started this season on the wrong end of a 6-0 away defeat at Blyth Town. Skipper Sam Hedley was sent off on 29mins with Birtley 1-0 down. They followed that with a 2-1 win at home against Crook Town on Tuesday night.
As for the Y&E, the late Ste Roberts goal took a share of the points against Horden on Tuesday after a good away performance. Jack Proctor was sent off in the melee at the end of the game, and he starts a 3 game suspension. Aside from that Jacko and the management team have not far off a full squad to choose from. Both Alex Dougall and Joe Hillerby had a run out for the reserves in midweek.
It’ll be another tough test for the Y&E, but we go into the game with confidence and we’ll be looking to keep the early season momentum going.
