AFC Newbiggin (a) Match Preview

Next up for the Y&E is a trip to the Northumberland Coast, to face AFC Newbiggin.

This is the fourth attempt at getting this game played, with our FA Vase run in November and the weather (twice) resulting in postponements.  As ever our away games are sponsored by Dragontail Consulting. The game kicks of at 3pm at Newbiggin Sports Centre, NE64 6HG.  According to Google Map, its an1hr 20 drive – and don’t forget your Tyne Tunnel payment.

The lads head into the game on the back of an impressive 5-1 win against Alnwick Town last weekend, with Josh Larkin (2), Jack Proctor, Josh Marshall and Tom Atkinson on the scoresheet.  The goal conceded was out first of 2026 in the league.  Once again Jacko has pretty much a full squad to choose from and he will have to make some difficult decisions to whittle it down to 16 players.  It’s busy month ahead with a packed league and cup programme the squad depth is going to be vital for us.

Newbiggin currently sit in 13th place in the league on 41 points from 32 games.  An impressive debut season so far in Northern League Division 2.  They’ve P32 W11 D8 L13 scoring 48 goals and conceding 49.  Their 8 draws is the joint highest in the league this campaign.  At home they are P14 W5 D4 L5 scoring 22 and conceding 17.

In their last 6 league games they are W2 L2 D2 including an impressive 4-3 home win vs Chester le Street Town.  Last time out they were 3-2 winners away at Sunderland RCA, Will Pritchard with a 93rd Minute winner fate Ethan Smith and Cameron Elliott had scored their first two. Ethan Smith is the danger man, he’s scored 7 goals in the last 7 games for them and 15 overall for the season.

In the reverse fixture, we played Newbiggin at home, way back in late July, our first home game of the season. The game ended 1-1 with Tom opening his account for the season on 25minutes and Jay Barber scoring just before half time.  That was Newbiggin’s first ever point in the Northern League

This will be our first visit to Newbiggin and more remarkably it is the first time that Committee man Paul Brockett has visited this ground.  A new tick all round!

Hope to see plenty of the Y&E faithful there watching backing the lads.  As ever, all support is massively appreciated.

Howay the mighty Y&E #utyae
