Yarm & Eaglescliffe win 3 finals on penalties in 6 days
Yarm & Eaglescliffe have achieved a hat trick of final wins in the space of 6 days.
The Ebac Northern League Division 2 side, competing in the 10th tier of English Football secured Division 2 League Cup final trophy on Bank Holiday Monday by beating Darlington Town 3-2 on penalties after a 3-3 draw, the Eagles completing a remarkable comeback from 3-0 down after 25minutes.
This win follows a 5-4 win on penalties against Jarrow FC after it was goals follow g extra time on Saturday. That win secured promotion for the Eagles to Ebac Northern League Division 1 for their first time in the club’s history.
The club’s remarkable run of 3 consecutive penalty shoot out victories started at the Riverside Stadium last Wednesday where the beat Boro Rangers 4-1 on penalties after the game finished 0-0, to win the North Riding Senior Cup.
Two trophies promotion in six days is a remarkable achievement for the Teesside Club. Manager Stephen Jackson was in awe of his team’s achievements “this team doesn’t know when it’s beaten. To win 3 finals on penalties is unbelievable really. The lads have been outstanding all season, we’ve finished the season unbeaten since Boxing Day. I couldn’t be prouder of the lads and what they have archieved for the club”
Goalkeeper Callum Roberts managed to make important saves in all three shoot outs. Jackson was full of praise for his keeper “Callum is a fantatstic keeper, we know with him in goal we always have a chance in a shoot out. He’ll always get at least one stop for us, but the lads taking the pens have to do the business, and they haven’t buckled under pressure at all. They’ve been superb”
The season has been a resounding success for the Y&E with their main target of promotion secured and two cup wins. Attention now focuses in next season in Ebac Northern League Division one.
