One more time…
The last game of the season. Our third final in 6 days. The chance to take a historic treble. It’s the Ernest Armstrong League Cup Final as we play Darlington Town at the Grayfields Enclosure TS24 8PJ in Hartlepool. It’s the final game across the Ebac Northern League and is a chance for us to retain the cup after we won it on the same ground last season, beating Horden 2-0.

In our way stands a Darlington Town side who will be seeking to win their first piece of Northern League silverware. They haven’t played since the 18th April, where they lost 3-0 at home against Redcar Town, in a game that saw Redcar crowned as league Champions. Darlington ended up finishing 13th in the league with a record of P42 W16 D6 L20. F59 A65.
In our 2 league games this season, we’ve split them equally between us. Boxing Day saw us lose 4-1, an early goal from Harry Williams put us ahead before Reece Brown & James Beauchamp scored to make it 2– at half time. Second half goals from Brandon Mallarburn & Leroy Hewitt made it a Boxing Day to forget for the Y&E. That was our last defeat in all competitions.
In the return game we won 4-1 on Easter Saturday. Four goals from Tom Atkinson (2 in each half) and a goal from James Beauchamp in the 2nd. Town had Bondarenko & Brown sent off second half.

To get to the final, had a bye 1st round, then beat Redcar Town 3-2 at home in the second Round, before a 3-2 win at home against Tow Law in the QF. In the semi finals they took an impressive 6-0 win over Jarrow in probably their best display of the season. Beating Redcar & Jarrow to get to the final, nobody can say they don’t deserve their place in the final.
As for the Y&E, well what can you say? An amazing few days, lifting the North Riding Senior Cup & winning the playoff final. It’s been nerve wracking and nail biting, but just reward for everyone connected with the club for an amazing season. Winning today would be the cherry on the top!
To get to the final we beat Seaham Red Star 2–1 in R1, Esh Winning 6-0 in R2, Billingham Town on pens in QF and then Ryton 1-0 in the Semi Final.
The only absence in the squad is Harry Stewart Titchner who is suspended. Aside from that Jacko has a pretty much full squad to select from, although hopefully everyone has recovered from Saturday’s gruelling 120mins of football and the celebrations after.
One more time this season. Our 58th & final game of an amazingly successful campaign. With promotion & a trophy already secured let’s make it even better by winning another final.
Our away support has been superb this season. We hope to see plenty of Y&E there today for one more time….
Howay the mighty Y&E
