Redcar Town (a) Match Preview

Next up for the Y&E is a top of the table clash away at league leaders Redcar Town. The game kicks off at Mo Mowlam Memorial Park (TS10 5BW) at 7.30pm. Redcar are expecting a big crowd so they have advised supporters to arrive early to help ease congestion at the gates.

Once again our away games are sponsored by Dragontail Consulting. Thanks again for your support this season, it is massively appreciated.

The equation is pretty simple for Tuesday night. The Y&E need to win. If Redcar win, then they win the league. A draw would mean Redcar could seal the league title with a win in either of their last 2 games (Seaham on Thursday or Darlington on Saturday). A win for us would push it to the final day, but we would still be reliant on Redcar Town dropping points in either of their remaining two games.

Redcar Town have certainly lived up to their billing of pre season favourites. They sit top of the league on 94 points from 38 games with a GD of +59. They’ve had a compact run of games lately, with several home games from January through to March having to be rearranged due to a waterlogged pitch.

Their last 6 games have seen them take 5 wins on the trot after a 2-1 defeat away at FC Hartlepool at the end of March. That run of wins has included victories over Billingham Town, Grangetown, Newcastle Uni, Chester le Street Town and Jarrow. They’ve had a few late scares, a missed Grangetown pen in the stoppage time and a 90+3 winner from Craig Gott on Saturday against Jarrow proving crucial for Redcar Town. At home they have an impressive record P19 W15 D1 L3 scoring 52 and conceding 21.

They’ve got a squad packed full of quality including skipper Craig Gott, midfield Josh Duffield and young forward Kayden Robinson Coley.

In the home game against them back in September we lost 2-1. A Craig Gott penalty and a Kyran Clark goal befor half time and Ste Roberts with a Pen on 78 for us. Last season we drew 3-3 at Redcar. Joe Dalton, and 2 from Josh Larkin for us. Some lad called Foz Garton opened the scoring for Town and Jamie Lee and Chris Dickinson on the scoresheet second half for Redcar Town. Our home game last season saw us win 2-1. Josh Larkinh scored on 54, Clayton McDonald scored on 62 before Tom Atkinson bagged an 89th minute winner.

Our superb run of form continued with an important 2-1 win away at Newcastle University. Tom Atkinson on the score sheet again for his 37th goal in the league this season. Defensively we continue to be solid. The lads have been in outstanding form over the past few months and to be in with a chance of winning the league with 2 games to go for the second season in a row is testament to the players and the management team. Whatever happens over these next few days, every single Y&E supporter will be proud to be Y&E.

Whatever superlative you want to use, league games don’t get much bigger than this one.

Our away support has been brilliant over the past few months and it would be great to see a strong Y&E contingent at the game backing the lads.
