Y&E lose 2-1 away at Prudhoe

The Y&E fell to a 2-1 defeat away at Prudhoe to bring their recent impressive run of results to an end.

With Storm Amy blowing strong, conditions weren’t ideal in the Tyne Valley.  Resident Y&E weatherman Maurice Fixter described it as being a “Swirly Wind” .  There was a couple of changes to the squad.  Cam Wild was back in, Ethan Jones was set to be on the bench but he picked up a slight injury in the warm up.  Harry Williams taking his place on the bench.  Tom Atkinson was back up front, Adam Groom at left wing back and Scaiffe in for Hillers.  HST was serving his one game suspension.   We lined up with Callum in goal, Jack Dalton at right back, Groomy on the left, an experienced central back three of Cam, Ross and Dan Jones.  In midfield Scaiffe, was alongside Joe Dalton with Sam Conway and Marshy playing off Tom up front.  On the bench, Leo, Foz, Harry Williams, Ste Roberts and Freddie McBride

There was good number of Y&E supporters who had made the trip up from Teeside to watch the game, and within about 10 minuets most had retreated under the stand as sunshine turned to rain.  There had been an early chance for Tom, who tried to flick the ball past the keeper.  There wasn’t much happening, both teams cancelling each other out.  Prudhoe had a bit of joy down our right and they won a corner on 21 minutes.  The ball came over and an effort was cleared before the rebound was put home after we failed to clear.  Thomas Wilson with the goal.  A few minutes later they had a chance to double their lead, we failed to clear again and Prudhoe broke, and effort on right hadn’t side past Callum but Jack Dalton able to clear the ball for corner.  It came over and was headed over. We had a claim for a penalty waved away, a ball across the box and it looked to hit the arm of a Prudhoe player.  As we approached the end o fetch half, we got a goal back. Tom Atkinson with the goal.  A Groomy cross, and it broke to Tom on the right hand side of the box, who did what he does best and scored from a super tight angle, between the keepers legs. 1-1 going in to half time.  We’d tweaked formation in the last 10 minuets of the half, Sam Conway moving to left wing back, Groomy in the middle, and Dan Jones up front.

We started the second half better, Tom with an early header saved by the keeper.  We made a double sub with Freddie and Leo on for Cam and Groomy.  On 64 minutes Ste Roberts cam on for Marshy.  On 66 minutes, Prudhoe took the lead.  A break down the right, ball came in to the box and their 8 Brad Lowes was on hand to finish.  A couple of minutes later, a free kick fo us on the edge of the box, Ste Roberts hit the wall, the ball broke and he got a cross / shot off and hit the woodwork. We made another substitution with Foz on for Sam Conway and Foz forced a really good save with a powerful effort from distance.   Joe Scaiffe Wheatley came off for Harry W as we looked to push for the equaliser. For everything that we tried up front, Prudhoe were a match at the back, and we were unable to get the equaliser as the game finished 2-1 to the hosts.

Credit to Prudhoe they took their chances, worked hard, defended well and deserved something from the game.  After they took the lead in the second half they made it really difficult for us.  They’ve picked up a bit of a run now and they’ll continue to take points through the remainder of the campaign.

As for the Y&E, its wasn’t our best performance.  We created a few chances, but never really controlled the game.  The winning run was going to come to an end at some point, and there was sone consolation in that the remainder of the top 5 also dropping points.  We dust ourselves down, regroup and go again away against local rivals Synners on Saturday.
