Y&E Head up the A1 to Alnwick looking to build on Boldon win

Next up for the Y&E is the game that everybody wanted on a Saturday!

After last season’s fantastic trip on the bus to St James Park we were all hoping that the Northern League fixture computer would be kind to us but unfortunately it’s a Tuesday night in Northumberland – which means no bus and no afternoon drinking in Alnwick’s excellent clubhouse. Fear not – We’ll save that for Pickering in the Vase on Saturday instead! Massive thanks again to Resolution Compliance for sponsoring our away games this season.

Alnwick have had an excellent start to the season with a string of high scoring games and the were one of the early pacesetters. They currently sit in 4th place in the league having played 14 games on 23 points. We are ninth, two points behind them having played 11 games. Just shows how close the league is this season. They’ve only lost once at home this season, 4-2 to Redcar Town. Drawing 3 (Seaham, FC Hartlepool and Boldon) and winning 3 of their other home games. An excellent home record so far. They also have Euan Potts, the league’s second top scorer in their ranks who has bagged an impressive 13 goals this season.

Last season the Northern League fixture computer (with the help of neither team featuring the Vase 2nd Qualifying round) meant 2 games in about 3 weeks between the sides. We won 3-0 at home in September – a Tom Atkinson hattrick and away we ran out 3-1 at winners Tom getting two and Reece McMann with the other.

Last Saturday’s home win against Boldon got us back to winning ways alongside a really good team performance. The lads will be looking to build on that performance against a good Alnwick Town side. Jacko and the management team have pretty much a full squad to choose from. Leo is stil carrying a knock after the game vs Redcar Town. Harry Williams is back available up front as well.

Hopefully we’ll see a few of the Y&E faithful there backing the lads. For those of you my making the journey, Minty will be updating Twitter and James will be updating the supporters WhatsApp group.

Howay the mighty Y&E 🔵⚪️🦅
