Match Preview

A.F.C. Newbiggin (h)

Tuesday 29th July 7.30pm Kick off

The first home game of the season sees AFC Newbiggin make the trip down the A19 to Bedford Terrace. The match is kindly sponsored by the Cleveland Bay and the Matchball is sponsored by the Y&E Chester Supporters Branch. Massive thanks for your support.

Kick off is 7.30pm with gates open from 6.30pm. Plenty of time to grab a go on the blind card (a bottle of gin is up for grabs) and to get yourself a pie and pre match drink. it’s £6 in for adults, £4 concessions and U16s are free if accompanied by an adult. Season tickets are on sale if you would like to buy one- just ask on the gate.

Printed match programmes are on sale as well. Plenty read in there, Minty has pulled together another top quality edition for you.

The game will be Newbiggin’s first away game in the Northern League and they will be looking to grab their first points of the season, after a 2-1 defeat at home against Park View CLS on the opening day of the season. After going 1 down after 7 mins they had a man sent off, they levelled on 28mins and looked set for an excellent point, but an injury time winner for Park View CLS (like they did to us last season) took all three points. They’ll be tough opposition.

As for the Y&E, a well earned win away at Chester le Street Town on Saturday got us off to a winning start. It was by no means vintage football, but getting an away win and a clean sheet was an excellent start to the season. Jacko and the management team will be looking to build on this as the games come thick and fast for the next month and a half.

Early season is always a bit mixed up with player availability, but Jacko will be looking to pick a strong starting XI from the squad. All the players on Saturday performed well and you’d expect the core of that team to be lining up against Newbiggin.

As ever the lads really value the support of the Y&E faithful and we’d love to see a decent early season crowd cheering them on. There’s nowt on TV and no Boro game on, so get yourself down to Bedford Terrace.

Howay the mighty full of early season optimism Y&E 🔵⚪️🦅
